Field Observation
While exploring a moss-covered waterfall, an unusual silhouette emerged from the cliff face. From behind, the cascading vegetation and exposed rock created the striking impression of a massive baboon sitting quietly among the trees. The waterfall formed the neck and shoulder, while the hanging moss resembled thick fur. The illusion appeared strongest from a distance and faded as the viewing angle changed.
Natural Explanation
This formation is the result of mineral-rich water flowing over porous limestone, allowing thick mosses and small plants to establish themselves along the cliff edge. The contrasting textures of vegetation, exposed rock and falling water create a classic example of pareidolia, where the human brain instinctively recognizes a familiar animal shape in an otherwise random natural formation.

Best viewing angle: From the opposite side of the footpath, approximately 30–40 metres away.
Best season: Late spring and summer, when the moss is lush and vibrant.
